Vonecia,
ReplyDeleteI like the quote you selected from Lyndon B Johnson about having the opportunity for upward mobility into a great society. Along with wealth and power come great responsibilities and I believe that self centered people currently control a lot of the wealth. My wish is that all parents would realize their responsibility to raise socially responsible children that will give back to their communities. This goes right along with the quote you wrote from Raymond Hernandez; I am not here to save the world, but I am here to make a difference in the community." If only everyone felt this passionately. Great Blog :)
Hi Vonecia,
ReplyDeleteI also like the quote that you selected from Marian Wright Edelman. Often times we as parents tend to allow teachers to teach as well as parent our children because we feel that they are the experts in every area of childhood development. We forget that we are our child's first teacher and we as parents should make lasting positive impressions in their lives. This is definitely a true statement when it comes to some of the younger parents who have very little parenting skills.
Vonecia,
ReplyDeleteEven though I did not use it in my blog, I really relate to Mr. Hernandez' quote that you used. I left Alabama when I was 18 thinking that I was setting out to save the world and would never look back. When I returned at age 32, I realized that there was so much work to do in this state that I did not need to go so far away. I just try to make a difference one child at a time.

Vonecia,
ReplyDeleteThat is a great comment from Sandy Escobido. I agree that if the parents are involved and take an interest in their child's education, the child has more motivation to succeed. In my years of being a teacher, I have seen this to be true. Another great reason we should do all we can to get our parents involved in our classroom and the school.

Hi Vonecia,
ReplyDeleteI really liked the quotes that you chose. My favorite is "Parents have become so convinced educators know what is best for children that they forget that they themselves are really the experts." (Marian Wright Edelman) This is so true. I know several parents that didn't want to argue with a teacher because they believed they knew best. there are plenty of areas where everyone can learn and that includes teachers.
