Professional Hopes and Goals
One hope that I have when I think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is that I hope that as professional educators we highlight key challenges and concerns in promoting diversity and illustrate ways to incorporate an understanding of diversity in the classroom and beyond. I feel that teachers should value diversity and they need to model this to children. Everybody is different and when people value diversity they respect that we are different.Teaching about different cultures should be taught daily and provide children a positive learning environment. As teachers,we already have a lot to do,but valuing diversity is most important.
One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice is to make sure all professionals are educated on the importance of these issues. It is important that all early childhood professionals gain knowledge about diversity, equity, and social justice in order to work effectively with young children and families.I would also like to make sure that young children have a learning environment that is positive and welcoming for all children and their families culture is supported without people being biases, prejudices, and discriminating.
A brief note of thanks to my colleagues I would like to say I appreciate the comments on the discussion board and blog assignments they were most helpful. Thanks for the support, encouragement, knowledge, and wisdom that was shared throughout our time in this wonderful class. I have enjoyed working with you guys because some of you I have been with since our first class together and I hope it continues throughout the program. We have learned so much about diversity and equity among children and their families. I look forward into seeing you guys again so that we can continue to share our understanding and knowledge about the early childhood field through discussions and blog assignments.

Hi Vonecia,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your blog. I totally agree with you that Childhood professionals should be educated on important issues pertaining to diversity, equity and social justice especially if they work with children and families.A positive learning environment is very essential to a child's development. As educators we should embrace and incorporate other cultures in the classroom to make the child feel welcome. When programs say that they incorporate diversity, they should really educate staff so they can understand the importance of acceptance of all and the realness of discrimination and prejudices. Very interesting points. I look forward to working with you in the future courses. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Vonecia,I enjoyed reading your blog. I agree that educators should embrace diversity and promote it in the classrooms. Many educators have the ability and the desire to open the minds and hearts of our children to new experiences and perspectives about life and the individuals we encounter. I hope that one day I will be able to help make a difference as well with the many families and children I work with on a daily basis. I also agree with you that education is important, our educators need to be trained and aware of the many diversity, equity and social justice issues that affect the families and children we work with on a regular basis. I strongly believe that awareness helps promote change. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences throughout this course and I wish you luck in all your future endeavors.
